Curb began life at an unspecified moment in
the late nineties and soon began to make waves on the local gig scene.
Adrian (drums, vocals), Ian (bass), Jason (guitar) and Paul (lead
vocals) were a welcome change from all those 60’s covers bands and
wannabe Brit-pop kids bashing away in the backrooms of village pubs. Ah
nostalgia….all the Britpoppers have since purchased Linkin Park records
and are now wannabe nu-metallers. Same shit, different riff, I guess
Anyway, Curb just did their thing. They
wrote songs, rehearsed them, and played them in public. Songs about
love, hate, hope, friendship, and all the everyday things which millions
of us make up our lives with. No spin, no trendy scene, just quality
tunes delivered with flair, tightness and the right amount of volume.
Paul left for about a year, during which the remaining trio worked with
outside songwriters. Paul was soon back for more though, and the good
ship Curb continued unabated.
In late 2000, Ian decided to leave the
band. Having a founder member quit is no easy situation, and Curb
wondered how to plug the gap. Step forward Rob – bassist, guitarist,
bit-part drummer and devilish handsome to boot. The new line-up
practiced their little hearts out, bless ‘em, and in early 2001 hit the
gig trail again. They built themselves a sizeable following and gigged
solidly, including a headline slot at Peterborough’s Willow Festival
where they played a blinder despite the skies opening mid-set. They even
found time to record two EPs, cunningly-titled “EP” and “EP2”. Busy boys
indeed. More upheaval. In Spring 2002, circumstances found Paul having
to bid his farewell. Curb wasted no time in holding auditions, and
enlisted ex-Squids man NiG for microphone duties. |
