High Vinyl are a brilliant Cambridge based
four-piece band whose sound is beautifully carved around folk, indie and
witty observations of the world around them.
"A few tracks of indie
folk that ranges in quality from cool to fab. The opener, "Messages" would
have a label like Domino drooling heavily as it's all solid bass lines,
laid back sneer n drawl vox and superior guitaring without the unnecessary
rock histrionics that plague lesser tunes. Their biog lists a whole slew
of brit bands as their influences but I can hear Pavement and Will Oldham
in here rather than anything else. Bit like The Broken Family band in that
while the instrumentation leans to the acoustic the material and the
confidence they pump it out with is very rocky in it's dynamics and
attack. A long way of saying this would be that this stuff would sound
great on a paper comb & dustbin lid." -
