After the split
of a small Norwich based band called Twenty Four Miles High, Mark
Winteringham and Emma Stanley (known to her friends as ‘Stan’) bassist
of Twenty Four Miles High, set about creating a new band which formed
after meeting drummer Jon Davis formed in February 2003.
Army of One have stayed as a three piece for the
entire duration together and they set about rehearsing material, some
from Twenty Four Miles High and some new material. With a half hour set
under our belts they went out and recorded at The Mill studios near Diss
in May of the same year which produced our first EP ‘24’ named in memory
of Twenty Four Miles High and the death of a friend close to the band.
After the recording of the EP they set about
gigging as much as they could in Norwich to build themselves a
reputation and a fan base. Their hard work paid off and they ended up
gigging in some of the biggest venues in Norwich, such as the
Waterfront, Norwich Arts Centre and the UEA LCR, which is a regular
hangout point for big bands to play at in Norwich.
In January 2004 Army of One managed to get picked
up by Wilde Club records after a successful gig at Norwich Arts Centre,
and after Wilde Club watching them play at the Waterfront they
decided to help them out with recording their second EP, which is
currently unnamed.
After a years break Army of One are returning
back to promote Wilde Club Records EP No.4 and soon to release our still
un-named second EP
