Bru Ha Ha are a Cambridge based band playing original music.
Bru Ha Ha are:-
Colin Young - Vocals, Lyrics + guitar
Rob Jones - Lead guitar
Nick Heald - Bass
Simon McMunn - Drums
Short Bio.
Bru Ha Ha were formed in October '99 after changing their name from
'Dead Calm'. Colin and Nick had previously formed Dead Calm in Feb.
'98 and went from a line up of five to two (themselves). The following
year they found a new drummer and Guitarist, Rob, and became Bru Ha
Ha.
The drummer parted company after doing several gigs and a demo Cd so
Bru Ha Ha found another Drummer, Simon. They are now the line up mentioned
above.
Music
Bru Ha Ha's music is quite a blend but comes together very well. If
you take a singer brought up on Folk music, a bassist with heavy rock
influences, a classic seventies rock styled guitarist and an indy/rock
drummer all with a dash of salt you get Bru Ha Ha unique sound.
Their songs are melodic, catchy, clever, humorous and sometimes compelling.
Their repertoire stands at over twenty five of their own songs, including
their own favourites of 'The King of All things Beautiful', 'La Casa
Del Diablo', 'Three' and 'And Now and Then'.
Achievements
With prolific gigging on their side, Bru Ha Ha are slowly building on
their fan base. They have the backing of a small record company called
BMN, who have agreed to record a single with them in the near future.
They have assigned them a music producer, John Williams, who works with
them regularly. BMN have allowed Bru Ha Ha to record a few demo Cd's
and continue to help them.
Recently Bru Ha Ha have attained the backing of the Cambridge based
group RockTech, who are impressed with them and are helping to promote
the band.
Only time will tell!
another biography:
Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away....
...or Cambridge to be precise, lived a great man, a noble man, a wise man who's name escapes me. Anyway, this man had a plan, which he mislaid but it was a good plan. I think it involved music somewhere.
...and then suddenly Bru Ha Ha was formed, isn't that amazing!
NO but seriously.... it goes like this...
Feb/Mar 1998 - Colin and Nick form Dead Calm, originally a five priece set up.
Aug 1998 - The drummer leaves and guitarist goes off to Uni. so Dead Calm become two.
July/Aug 1999 - Benn joins, they become three.
Sept 1999 - Rob joins and they become... four.
October 31st 1999 - Dead Calm become Bru Ha Ha.
May 2001 - Ben leaves and Simon joins as the new drummer and they embark again on musical adventures of the very close kind!
Venues they have gigged at include The Boat Race (Camb.), The Portland Arms (Camb.), The Man On The Moon (Camb.), The Black Bull (Sawston, Camb.), The Square (Harlow), Churchills (Ipswich) etc.
Κ
With a contract in the pipeline to record, and hopefully release a single, with BMN records things are looking up for this bunch of ex-space pirates (or is it space watchers). Anyway, music is being made and people are cocking their heads to listen; it's all good!
BUT what of the future..... damsels in distress.... fighting off dragons.... or finger painting!

ΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚΚ Well that's in the hands of Mr. D. Estiny!
Bru Ha Ha's music is a 'witches brew' of styles and newts eyes. With a singer brought up on, primarily, folk music, a bassist with heavy rock influences, a classic seventies rock styled guitarist and an indy/rock drummer; they are a treat not to be missed.
Their aim is to produce songs that do differ from each other. It's difficult to do and asks for a lot out of each of them. These ideas stem from being fed up with buying albums with three decent songs on them and the rest of the songs being of a mediocre nature (or stocking fillers as they like to call them). So their idea is to produce songs that are different in style, content and intensity.
Anyone who has heard them would have heard songs like 'The King of All Things Beautiful', a catchy and self-indulging song; 'La casa del diablo', a song that reaches out whilst haunting at the same time; 'three', one of the bands favourite little tune which definitely catches the ear and 'Turn Green', which defies gravity and sums up everything in one whole song (there's also a reggae version in there too).
There's something about these guys that needs closer inspection, not by the police but by music lovers. Their overall aim is not to slef indulge and become inward looking but to stay as they are and crack a few jokes along the way.
"Three is the best song i've heard in a long time" - quoted by a guy at a recent Boat Race gig!
